BIOJAPAN is the longest-running international event about biotechnology in Japan. Last year, more than 350 companies attended the event and gathered 20,000 visitors from 15 countries.
BIOJAPAN 2007 is an opportunity for biotech companies to make valuable appointments with representatives among key players in this industry. This event is built on an exhibition, a conference program and partnering meetings, which make it possible to reach worthy international companies for open innovations and international collaboration.
As part of BIOJAPAN 2007, the French national pavilion organised by UBIFRANCE and the French Economic and Trade Commission in Japan will showcase the best of French bio industry technology.
The French national pavilion, which will be managed by UBIFRANCE, will host 25 French participants. In addition to major groups and 6 biotech competitiveness cluster, France's participation will also showcase several dynamic and innovative small and medium-sized companies. The French pavilion will be located at stand B1-10.
The French Biotechnology seminar, scheduled on September 20th during BIOJAPAN 2007, will address Japanese representatives in order to present French's cluster, technologies and Know how.

"AliX is an
early-stage drug discovery company founded 2002 as a spin-off from
the Department of Structural Biology and Genomics of IGBMC (Institute
of Genetics and Molecular and Cellular Biology) in Illkirch, France.
AliX has several R&D projects in structure-based design of drug candidates,
with a primary focus on nuclear hormone receptors. AliX also offers
service activity in protein and protein-ligand complex crystallization
and crystallographic structure determination, in structure-based
ligand design and hit-to-lead optimization, and in ligand screening
using non-denaturing mass spectrometry. AliX has developed a proprietary
approach for structure-based drug discovery combining X-ray crystallography
and mass spectrometry. We routinely use non-denaturing electrospray
ionization mass spectrometry to screen ligands for binding to given
targets. This is especially interesting when a functional assay is
not available, as in the case of orphan nuclear receptors. We have
now extended this approach to fragment-based drug discovery.

The Cancer-Bio-Health
Competitiveness Cluster which was approved by the French Government
in July, 2005 groups the principal actors in the Midi-Pyrénees and
Limousin regions involved in the fight against cancer.
the Cancer-Bio-Health cluster has a dual objective, which is both to
favour therapeutic innovations to the benefit of patients and to create
wealth (companies, partnerships, intellectual property, innovation)
and employment.
The Cancer-Bio-Health cluster can also depend on the strengths of the
Midi-Pyrénées and Limousin regions, which are pharmaceutical, agrifood
and biotechnology sectors.
In total, the Cancer-Bio-Health cluster represents more than 20,000
private-sector jobs, 10,000 of them in industrial R&D, to which
should be added nearly 9000 people working in public sector research.
The dedicated and integrated Cancéropôle of Toulouse-Langlade will
be the core campus of the competitiveness cluster which also draws
resources from industrial players throughout the region, ranging from
major drug companies to SME or start-ups."

CELLECTIS is
the world leader in applying the technology of Meganuclease Recombination
Systems to in vivo genome engineering and genome surgery. The company
is focused on the research and development of custom-Meganuclease
Recombination Systems for in vivo DNA interventions and also provides
new tools for rational genome engineering and targeted recombination
in living cells. CELLECTIS develops recombination systems based on
a novel class of genetic scissors: the Meganucleases. The technological
breakthrough is the Meganuclease Recombination Systems (MRS) based
on the Homologous Recombination and the Meganucleases. Cellectis'
technology allow to perform precise modifications on chromosomes
such as deletions, insertions or substitutions of genomic sequences.
We design the meganuclease to target sequences of interest in the
genome in vivo or ex vivo. CELLECTIS products are patented proprietary
technologies. Applications of Meganuclease Recombination Systems
(MRS)cover human genome therapy (somatic, stem cells and anti-viral),
animal models, protein production and bioprocessed molecules or genetic
improvement of plant or animal species.

DBV has created
E-patch® technology for cutaneous administration of active ingredients
and is using it in the development of product ranges for diagnosis
and treatment. DBV Technologies developed a way of delivery for larger
and more fragile drug molecules to pass into the skin, opening the
possibilities for controlled, pain-free delivery of virtually any
drug or vaccine. The E-patch technology allows to a cost-effective
and easy to use skin patch, holding the dry drug by electrostatic
forces by passing cold chain constraints. The occlusion created on
the skin facilitates the flow of non-denatured proteins, peptides,
and other molecules into the body without the use of needles.

To accurately
characterize therapeutic targets HELIOS BIOSCIENCES brings a new
paradigm in systems biology by introducing the dynamic dimension
in the study of biological regulatory pathways. We build directed
networks of intermolecular interactions and develop software to model
the dynamics of these network’s responses after pathological / pharmacological
stimuli. The company offers access to its molecular interaction networks
and the opportunity to co-develop dynamic models of these networks.
1. Algorithmes and Sotwares to Modelize and Predict the evolution
of molecular networks during physio-pathological processus. 2. Because
no networks of interactions are accurate enough to sustain the development
of our dynamic system biology approach, we have developped an outsatnding
know-how and expertise in building networks of molecular interactions.
3. Technologies to characterize the expression of genes in tissue
sections.

diseases linked to ageing, unhealthy diet and today’s ever-increasing
sedentary lifestyle require suitable responses. This is the challenge
taken on by the NHL Cluster.
Innovation is the key word with a real response to the needs in terms
of the treatment and the prevention of cardiovascular, metabolic and
age-related pathologies to be found in molecules, food ingredients
and medical devices.
In 2006, about thirty projects were approved by the Cluster, for a
total R&D budget amounting to over 37 million EUR. These projects,
defined and initiated by the 39 members of the Biohealth, Agrifood
and Biotechnology Sectors of the Cluster thus confirm the R&D private
